Czech Republic: Pivovary Staropramen sweeps beer tasting competitions

Pivovary Staropramen brewery announced on October 20 that this year’s beer tasting competitions in the Czech Republic were single-handedly dominated by Pivovary Staropramen in the category of lager and draught beer. Out of a total of eleven gold medals, six went to Pivovary Staropramen! Also, the company won over half of all the awards. The last great accomplishment is a triple victory for Pivovary Staropramen in the Czech Brewmasters Prize competition.

Pivovary Staropramen culminated its tour de force in the autumn with the Czech Brewmasters Prize competition, which is in its 12th year. In the competition, 34 brands were entered and were tasted by a total of 29 beer experts. The competition, which has one main category, ended with a triple victory for Pivovary Staropramen. The overall winner was the draught beer Staropramen Světlý, second place went to the lager Staropramen Ležák, and the clean sweep was rounded out by Ostravar Originál, also produced by Pivovary Staropramen, which took bronze. What is more, Ostravar Strong placed third in the Czech Brewmasters Prize Special category.

“This year’s beer competitions really did turn out excellently for us. We appreciate the awards and recognition very much. For us, the results are proof that we are doing our work well and they will continue to challenge us to perform as we go forward,” says František Šámal, Pivovary Staropramen’s Director of Production and Technology.

Pivovary Staropramen was successful in in the category of lager and draught beer in all the major Czech beer competitions that took place this year. The largest number of competitors was in January’s Czech Beer Seal competition, in which Pivovary Staropramen took four out of a possible nine major awards. In the PIVEX Golden Cup 2005, brands from Pivovary Staropramen’s portfolio took three leading rankings in two categories. In the Beer of the Czech Republic competition, which took place as part of the České Budějovice Beer Celebrations, Pivovary Staropramen won third place in two categories. The company also shined, with two first prizes and one third prize, in the two-round official competition of the Czech Beer and Malt Association, entitled Czech Beer 2005.
